Breakthrough in the west tunnel between Erstfeld and Amsteg
On September 16, 2009, shortly before 4 pm, in the west tunnel of the Gotthard Base Tunnel, Tunnel Boring Machine Gabi 2 broke through the last metres of rock between Erstfeld and Amsteg. Breakthrough in the east tunnel already took place on June 16, 2009. Breakthrough of the tunnel was achieved with very great accuracy. Erstfeld: Gabi 2 auf Rekordfahrt
Rasanter Endspurt der Tunnelbohrmaschine Gabi 2 zwischen Erstfeld und Amsteg: am Sonntag 19. Juli 2009 fuhr die Tunnelbohrmaschine in der Weströhre innerhalb von 24 Stunden nicht weniger als 56 Meter auf – eine einmalige Leistung beim Bau des Gotthard-Basistunnels. Die Tunnelbohrmaschine West hat in der Zwischenzeit 6'616 m oder 92.6 % aufgefahren. Es fehlen noch rund 531 m bis zum Durchschlag, der im Herbst 2009 stattfindet.more >>
European transport ministers visit the NRLA construction site at Sedrun
On July 17, 2009, Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger accompanied European transport politicians on a visit to the underground construction site of the New Rail Link through the Alps (NRLA) at Sedrun to demonstrate to them Switzerland's policy of transferring traffic from road to rail. 1400 Visitors to the Construction Site Open Day at Sedrun
Success for the construction site open day at Sedrun: on Saturday, June 20, 2009, some 1400 people visited the NRLA construction site in the Surselva. Many interested visitors obtained on-site information about the status of the work. During the day, some 830 people experienced the exclusive 800 m ride down the shaft. Just before 12 noon today, the tunnel boring machine Gabi 1 broke through the last metres of rock between Erstfeld and Amsteg. By covering a distance of 7.2 kilometres in only 18 months the machine arrived in Amsteg half a year earlier than planned. Ceneri Tunnel Construction Lot Awarded
On June 11, 2009, the Board of Directors of AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd awarded the construction contract for the Ceneri Base Tunnel (Lot 852) to the Consorzio Condotte Cossi consortium. The companies comprising the consortium are Società Italiana per Condotte d'Acqua S.p.A. Rome (Italy), Cossi S.p.A. Sondrio (Italy), and Cossi SA Lugano (Switzerland). Werner Marti new Chairman of the ATG Board of Directors
Werner Marti is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd (ATG). The 52-years-old attorney at law from the canton of Glarus was elected to this office by the General Meeting of ATG held on June 11, 2009. He succeeds Hans-Kaspar Dick, who has retired from the ATG Board of Directors on grounds of age.
