Status of the Work at Ceneri
Camorino
For the new bridge over the A2 motorway, the anchoring and excavation works by the east and west abutments are complete. Cut-and-cover work for relocating the infrastructures (crossing the motorway carriageways) will be resumed in mid-March 2010. The main work north of the cantonal road (Lot 741) will start at the beginning of April 2010. This comprises the demolition of existing and temporary buildings, removal of the prestressing embankment, and construction of the railway trackbed for the Locarno-Lugano loop. This includes completion of the Canale Fugatore and the pedestrian subway parallel to the cantonal road.
At the underpasses under the cantonal road and at Ai Lischèe, jetting work to improve and seal the foundation ground is in progress. At the Morobbia bridge, work on the abutments is in progress.
Vigana
The drive for the Bretella is at tunnel metre 213 and has crossed under the Swiss Federal Railways line. The abutments on which the crown will rest are complete. The jetting work for the crown expansion is practically finished. Excavation of the crown under the A2 motorway is planned from March 2010.
Sigirino
Work on Lot 851 (Access Tunnel Sigirino and Caverna Operativa) was completed on schedule. The plant of Lot 813 (Spoil Processing Phases 1-3) is also complete and in operation. The main contractor of the Ceneri Base Tunnel (Lot 852) has been operating overground since November 30, 2009, and underground since January 4, 2010. Driving work will start during March 2010.
Vezia
Work on Lot 822 (Adaptation of the Main Line South of the Portal) continues to progress according to the construction schedule. In February 2010, work on modification of the SFR route at SFR km 178.040 (Via Gerbone), and on preparation for ballast laying for the new trackbed north of SFR km 177.800, was continued. In the southern section, construction work continued for the rescue road on the valley side of the existing SFR line. The work contract for Lot 854 (Cut-and-cover Tunnel and Portal Construction Vezia) was signed on February 5, 2010.
