Since the start of construction work on the Gotthard, the world's longest tunnel has attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the NRLA construction sites and the information centres at Erstfeld, Sedrun and Pollegio. On August 23, 2013, AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. could welcome the one millionth visitor at the Erstfeld information centre.
The visitor belonged to a group from Switzerland which visited the Erstfeld information centre and the construction site at Amsteg. Renzo Simoni, Chief Executive Officer, presented the group with a rock crystal from the heart of the Gotthard.
The efforts made by AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. for visitors are a success story. The first information centre was opened at Sedrun in October 1996, Pollegio followed in 2003 and the Erstfeld information centre was opened in March 2008. Construction site visits are a favourite way to gain close-up on-site information about the current status of the work. Besides Swiss people, many visitors from neighbouring countries are also interested in the NRLA through the Gotthard. In addition, there are numerous visits by politicians, government bodies, technical specialists, project leaders and journalists from Switzerland and all over the world.
The information centres are open daily from Tuesday to Saturday, at Erstfeld and Sedrun information about the project is also available to visitors on Sunday. Further information about the exact opening times and construction site visits is available on the website of AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. at www.alptransit.ch.
