Collaboration between AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. and the environmental protection organisations with objection rights is continuing successfully. This was the conclusion reached by the Swiss Environmental Organisations (USO), represented by Dr. Martin Furter, following visits to the construction sites of AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. (ATG) at Bodio and Biasca on September 15, 2009. USO acknowledges the high priority that ATG gives to environmental protection in the planning and execution phases.
For many years the Swiss environmental protection organisations have regularly visited the construction sites operated by AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. for the NRLA project. These visits allow the national environmental protection organisations (Pro Natura, Rheinaubund, Schweizer Heimatschutz SHS, Stiftung Landschaftsschutz Schweiz SL, Schweizer Vogelschutz SVS Birdlife Schweiz, Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz VCS, and WWF Schweiz) to inform themselves about the implementation of environmental measures, some of which result from their objections.
During the construction site visits at Bodio and Biasca on September 15, 2009, ATG showed representatives of the Swiss environmental protection organisations various natural objects, revitalisation and wetland sites which have already been implemented as environmental protection measures. During the visits there was a further open exchange of information and opinions, which also included comments of a constructively critical nature. In conclusion, the Swiss environmental protection organisations praised the environmental protection endeavours of ATG on both construction sites.
