Successful collaboration between AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. and the Swiss environmental protection organisations

The collaboration between AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. and the environmental protection organisations with objection rights has proved its worth. This was the conclusion reached by the Swiss Environmental Organisations (USO) after their visit to the construction sites of the Ceneri Base Tunnel on October 30, 2012.

For many years, the Swiss environmental protection organisations have regularly visited the various construction sites that are operated by AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd. for the NRLA project. These visits allow the national environmental protection organisations (Pro Natura, Rheinaubund, Schweizer Heimatschutz (SHS), Stiftung Landschaftsschutz Schweiz (SL), Schweizer Vogelschutz (SVS; Birdlife Schweiz), Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz (VCS) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Schweiz)) to inform themselves about the status of the project, and particularly about the environmental aspects.

At the information event of October 30, 2012, which was devoted to the construction sites of the Ceneri Base Tunnel (Nodo di Camorino, Vigana, Sigirino and Vezia), the focus was on the spoil deposit at Sigirino, the wild-animal bridge at Dosso di Taverne, and implementation of the planned landscaping measures in the area of Nodo di Camorino. The representatives of the Swiss environmental organisations expressed satisfaction with the efforts to integrate the individual objects into the overall landscape. ATG shares the conviction of USO that the necessary attention must be given to the ecological measures also in the future operation so that a sustainable effect can be achieved.
